KIEV, October 13 (Itar-Tass) — Ukraine has enough skilled lawyers to defend Yulia Timoshenko at Ukrainian and international courts, Yulia Timoshenko’s lawyer Yuri Sukhov told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

The Ukrainian lawyer thanked his Russian colleagues from the Guild of the Russian Barristers who expressed readiness to defend Yulia Timoshenko at international courts, including the European Court. "Thanks for support and offered assistance, but there is more politics than law in the Timoshenko case. Therefore, it is easier for Ukrainian lawyers to defend Yulia Timoshenko at Ukrainian national courts," Sukhov said.

President of the Guild of the Russian Barristers, merited lawyer of Russia Gasan Mirzoyev declared on Thursday that Russian lawyers were ready to render the necessary juridical assistance to Yulia Timoshenko so as to defend her rights at international courts and the European Human Rights Court.

"The Russian lawyers believe that the verdict to Timoshenko has nothing to do with justice, but has an obvious political character," Mirzoyev said. '"We hope that superior judicial bodies in Ukraine will make an objective assessment of the verdict," Mirzoyev added.

On October 11 the Kiev Pechorsky district court sentenced Yulia Timoshenko to seven years in prison on charges of abuse of office when signing gas contracts with Russia in January 2009. Timoshenko's lawyers intend to appeal the verdict.
