NALCHIK, October 12 (Itar-Tass) — The Russian consumer rights’ watchdog has received an official proposal from two Georgian producers ready to supply Borjomi mineral water and wine to the Russian market, Rospotrebnadzor chief Gennady Onishchenko told reporters on Wednesday.
“On Sunday I received an official proposal from two Georgian producers. There are no special problems. We’ll examine their production and produce samples. If everything is normal, let them supply,” he said.
“The recent talks with Georgia took place two weeks ago,” he said.
Onishchenko underlined that Russia “is open for supplies of qualitative products and there is no need to search for some special reasons, the main thing is quality.”
“They [in Georgia] at once interpret any statement of mine as Russia’s attempt to lure into its market. We do not lure anyone,” he said.
As for the terms of possible return of Borjomi and wine to the Russian market, the chief sanitary doctor said, “this does not depend on us” meaning that Georgian producers should themselves propose their products and guarantee their quality.
