Moscow’s veto on draft UN Syrian resolution no absolution – Margelov

Moscow’s veto on a draft resolution of the United Nations Security Council on Syria is in no way an absolution from the Bashar Assad regime

MOSCOW, October 10 (Itar-Tass) —— Moscow’s veto on a draft resolution of the United Nations Security Council on Syria is in no way an absolution from the Bashar Assad regime, Russian president’s African envoy said on Monday.

“It is important to understand that the Russian veto is no absolution, neither it is a free hand for the current Syrian regime,” Mikhail Margelov, who is also chairman of the international committee of the Russian Federation Council upper parliament house, said at a meeting with a delegation of the Syrian opposition. “And if the Syrian regime has not yet conceived the signal, it must do it as soon as possible.”

Margelov urged Bashar Assad “not to waste time to make reforms and hold a dialogue with all the parties to the conflict but not merely with those who are convenient to talk to.”
