PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, October 10 (Itar-Tass) —— Kamchatka opened a criminal case over an attempted illegal sea trafficking of poached 18 tonnes of red caviar from the settlement of Ossora in the Karaga district of the Kamchatka Territory to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the press service of the Federal Security Service department in the Kamchatka Territory told Itar-Tass on Monday.
The poached red caviar was found onboard the Gritan freighter, which was about to set off from Ossora on October 4. Two people were accompanying the poached red caviar supply. One of them produced an identity card of an operative from the crime security department in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. He claimed that the caviar was confiscated from the poachers and passed for storage and transportation to the company Galatea-Khabarovsk. The authenticity of the documents, which he produced, was suspicious. The detectives found out later that the man, who introduced himself as a police officer, is the former policeman, who failed to pass the reclassification in July 2011.
Another major red caviar batch with a total weight of more than three tonnes was detained on October 5 near the village of Karaga in the Karaga district of the territory. The poachers were seeking to airlift the red caviar supply to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky by a helicopter Mi-8 belonging to the Vertical-T air company without any documents, which validated the transportation and caviar fishing. The investigation in the caviar poaching case was launched.
