KRASNODAR, October 8 (Itar-Tass) —— President Dmitry Medvedev urged the ruling United Russia party to work, not make declarations, and warned it against thinking too much of itself.
“For everyone who like United Russia, votes for it and is its member it is very important to see practical results every year, every month and every day. The party should be a party of real actions. Only then will it enjoy trust,” the head of state said at a meeting with ruling United Russia party activists on Saturday, October 8.
He recalled Soviet times when “we were all fed up with slogans” but “there was neither trust nor results”.
“It is very important to remain in touch with people” and “not to fall into self-complacency because as soon as one start thinking too much of himself, there comes what one classic called dizziness from success, and people feel it right away and say: this is the wrong party,” Medvedev said.
“You should always be at the forefront of communication [with people] even if something goes wrong,” he said.
The president advised party activists and leaders “not to distance yourselves from current problems by any means”.
“I do hope that this is the way we will all act,” he said.
Medvedev will head the party’s election list in the upcoming Duma elections in December 2011.
According to the president, United Russia has good chances to win the elections, but it has “to work had every single day”.
“I am confident that United Russia, our party has very good chances to won,” he said.
Medvedev stressed that the party has such good chances “not because of the notorious administrative resource since United Russia is full of bosses and its list is headed by the president of the country, but because it works well and shows concern and care for people, because it has already proved its ability to solve challenging tasks and work every single day”.
“If we work like that, we will get very good results,” the head of state said.
