28 out of 53 new wildfire outbreaks extinguished in Siberia

The situation remains tense in the Trans-Baikal Territory, the Republic of Buryatia and Tuva

KRASNOYARSK, October 7 (Itar-Tass) — The total area of wildfires in Siberia decreased by 658.4 ha over the past day. Forty seven fires continued to burn on 2,702.1 ha in the region on Friday, and 20 of them on 2,069.5 ha are already localized, the press service of the Emergencies Ministry's Siberian regional centre told Itar-Tass.

Out of 53 new outbreaks discovered on Thursday, 28 were extinguished during the day. Firefighters also put out 26 forest fires that broke out earlier, including 18 fires discovered on October 5.

The situation remains tense in the Trans-Baikal Territory, the Republic of Buryatia and Tuva. According to the latest reports, all the fires in the Irkutsk Region have been extinguished.

A total of 2,209 people fought the fires and carried out preventive measures on Thursday. They used 456 vehicles. Seven EMERCOM aircraft carried 50 firefighters and 2.6 t of cargoes and equipment to the fire sites and dropped 225 tonnes of water onto the burning areas, the press service reported.

Forest guards carried out 330 raids to detect violations of the fire safety regulations. Twenty seven cases of violations were reported.

There are 746 mobile and fixed posts to bar the accesses to the taiga and monitor the situation.

Though the situation has improved, firefighters continue to reinforce and re-deploy their forces. During this Friday, 135 firefighters more and 37 vehicles are planned to be brought in the Trans-Baikal Territory. Two helicopters will be sent to the region in addition to the two helicopters working there. The force strength will be increased by 65 people and 13 vehicles in Buryatia. Thirty six firefighters more will arrive in Tuva.
