Syrian ambassador thanks Russian govt for support to his country

He emphasized the deplorable role some Arabic and international mass media have played in the events currently unfolding in his country

MOSCOW, October 5 (Itar-Tass) – Syrian ambassador in Moscow Riyad Haddad has thanked the Russian government for the support his country received during the voting on a resolution on anti-Syrian sanctions at the UN Security Council, Foreign Ministry officials said Wednesday after the ambassador’s meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

“The ambassador thanked the Russian side for preventing the passage of a resolution that might have opened the road to foreign interference in Syria’s affairs along the Libyan model,” Haddad said.

He emphasized the deplorable role some Arabic and international mass media have played in the events currently unfolding in his country. Their coverage of the situation contained gross distortions and insinuations of every description, including the circulation of alleged statements, which the Syrian political and state leaders had never made in reality.

“Russia confirms its principled stance on the inadmissibility of outside interference in Syrian internal affairs, on the necessity of ruling out any acts of violence in the country and on the importance of pressing steps towards the implementation of political, social and economic changes that have been declared,” Mikhail Bogdanov said.

He also urged the conflicting sides in Syria to open a broad national dialogue that would embrace all the fruitfully minded political forces.
