Russian emergencies ministry’s Il-76 arrives in Bratsk to help put out wildfires

The Il-76 is the world’s biggest fire fighter plane capable of discharging up to 42 tons of water at a time

MOSCOW, October 3 (Itar-Tass) —— An Ilyushin-76 airplane of the Russian Emergencies Ministry has arrived in the Irkutsk Region’s Bratsk district to take part in the fire fighting operations, a spokesman for the Siberian regional emergencies centre told Itar-Tass on Monday.

According to the spokesman, the Il-76 airplane equipped with a water discharging device took off from the Ramenskoye airfield outside Moscow at 10:00 a.m. Moscow time and arrived in Bratsk at 15:56 Moscow time.

The Il-76 is the world’s biggest fire fighter plane capable of discharging up to 42 tons of water at a time.

Apart from the Il-76, the Russian Emergencies Ministry has sent to the fire area an amphibious plane Be-200ChS.

According to the Bratsk city administration, the city is coated in smoke from wildfires. As of now there are twelve fires on an overall area of 2,115 hectares in the Bratsk district.
