Russia’s 80pct Internet users prefer Yandex search engine - source

MOSCOW, October 3 (Itar-Tass) —— The Yandex search engine is a most popular portal on the Russian-language Internet, TASS-Telecom’s rating reports.

The analysis was made jointly with TNS Global and its results are published on the tasstelecom.ru site. The two companies prepared a rating of 30 most popular internet platforms in Russia in 2011.

The number of active Internet users in Russia makes about 50 million, the TASS-Telecom reports. About 31 percent of the Internet users visit the net at least once a day, 54 percent – once a week, and 59 percent – at least once a month.

Over the first seven months of 2011, 81.4 percent of Russia’s Internet users visited Yandex’s main page. The search engine tops the rating. The second place in the rating was given to the VKontakte social network with 77.8 percent of the country’s Internet users, who visited the vkontakte.ru page.

Mail.ru, popular with 73.5 percent of the national users, ranks third.

The fourth line in the rating was given to the Odnoklassniki social network /43.7 percent/, the fifth – to the RuTube video hosting /41.3 percent/. The video hosting is a leader in growth of visits in 2011 – the number of uses who visited RuTube grew by 11.6 percent.
