ODESSA, September 30 (Itar-Tass) — Two policemen were shot dead and four were wounded in the exchange of fire in Ukraine when they attempted to detain a killer sought by Russian and Ukrainian law enforcement services, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's press service said on Friday.
The operation was conducted near Odessa overnight. It was established that Aslan Dikayev from Volgograd illegally resided in Odessa. At a police post near the village of Koshary, a traffic police inspector stopped a Black Vaz-2110 car to check documents. Three men were in the car. The policeman asked driver Dikayev to open the automobile trunk. At the moment, members of the Berkut special unit began the operation to detain the criminal. He threw two grenades in their direction and opened fire from a TT pistol. Another passenger opened fire from a Kalashnikov gun. One of the Berkut team wounded the attacker in the car. However, none was detained. The car escaped.
A special operation is launched in the region to catch the criminals. Police posts are reinforced. Control on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border is tightened up.
According to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, Russian citizen Aslan Dikayev committed a contract murder, shooting dead two men in the village of Baranintsy, the Trans-Carpathian region, on June 29, this year.
