Moscow police confiscate over ton of drugs intended for night clubs

All the drugs dealers involved in the criminal business were arrested one by one - from drug couriers to ring- leaders

MOSCOW, September 29 (Itar-Tass) — The Moscow police department for prevention of drugs circulation confiscated more than one ton of drugs intended for night clubs in Moscow, the Moscow department of the Federal Service for Control of Drugs (FSKN) told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

During an investigation into drugs-related incidents in the city in 2010 FSKN established that a clandestine laboratory was operating in the city which produced synthetic drugs. When studying areas where the synthetic drug (amphetamine) was circulated police focused on a group of eight students from Moscow institutes who were implicated in drugs production.

All the drugs dealers involved in the criminal business were arrested one by one - from drug couriers to ring- leaders, within several months. A clandestine "shop" where the drugs were produced was based the town of Noginsk south of Moscow. The laboratory had an estimated production capacity of up to four kilograms of synthetic drugs per month.

Then, three organizers, who opened the "laboratory, were tracked down. They proved to be residents of Balashikha - one of Moscow neighborhoods. Another laboratory with "a production capacity" of 15 kilograms, even higher than at the Noginsk shop, was found on the territory of the Balashikha district. The Balashikha laboratory like its Noginsk counterpart was based in a private garage.

All the organizers of the criminal business were put under arrest on July 14. As a result of search conducted in places where the drug dealers lived and produced drugs a total of 240 plastic canisters with a capacity of five liters each have been confiscated.

The results of the laboratory tests of the confiscated stuff announced on September 26 confirmed that the confiscted stuff was amphetamine. The drug had been produced at the laboratories for more than 1.5 years. It was circulated at leisure centers in Moscow, in the Northern administrative district, in particular, the investigation said. The clandestine laboratories produced around 20 kilograms of amphetamine a month (more than 4,000 doses). Profits the criminal group made from the illegal business rose to six million roubles a month on the average, FSKN said.

Criminal proceedings against the eight drug dealers were instituted on drugs-related charges. The criminals were arrested and taken into custody, pending trial.
