Medvedev favors broader use of alternative fuels in boiler houses

The problem of houses, which are worn out closely to the critical level, exists - president

ZVENIGOROD, September 28 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Dmitry Medvedev believes that it is needed to consider additional impetuses for the use of alternative types of fuel in the boiler houses.

“Far from everywhere gas is the best type of fuel. Gas is good, there is quite enough of it, but gas is an expensive fuel, therefore, alternative energy sources certainly have a future,” Medvedev said at a meeting devoted to the preparation to the heating season.

He noted that during a visit to a boiler house in Zvenigorod he was already speaking about new additional stimuli “to develop alternative regional energy sources, including even pellets” – the biological fuel in granules generated through the highly technological processing of bog, timber waste and agricultural waste.

The transition of the boiler houses to this type of fuel should be promoted, Medvedev said. The president proposed to the participants in the meeting, including the chiefs of municipalities, to put forward their ideas “how to do it better and what can be done by the state authorities.”

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev urged the government to make proposals on ramshackle houses, which were found in the emergency condition since January 2010.

“The problem of houses, which are worn out closely to the critical level, exists. The housing and utilities fund makes allocations to resettle people from those houses, which were found in the emergency condition before January 1, 2010. The future of the houses, which may be found in the emergency condition after this deadline, is not determined yet. We should have consultations how to act and I would like the government to formulate its proposals,” Medvedev said at a meeting devoted to the preparation to the heating season on Wednesday.

He also noted that the urban development problem is also very important. “Certainly, everything looks nice in Zvenigorod. I discussed this problem a year ago and gave relevant instructions, but generally speaking it is the problem which the authorities deal or not deal with. Frankly speaking, if the city authorities, the authorities of the settlement, district authorities focus attention on this, it is seen immediately,” Medvedev added.

The president noted that the regional chief executives should help local self-government bodies with funding and in the organizational way to solve the housing and utilities problems.
