Belarus establishing national agency for commercialization of intellectual property

The decision was made at a meeting of the State Committee for Science and Technology

MINSK, September 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Belarus is establishing a national agency for commercialization of intellectual property.

The decision was made at a meeting of the State Committee for Science and Technology attended by representatives of the National Academy of Sciences, the Ministries of Finance and Economics, the National Intellectual Property Center, the Belarusian State University and the Belarusian Society of Inventors and Development Engineers.

“The sides agreed to set up a national agency for commercialization of intellectual property, to build up the potential of the Belarusian Society of Inventors and Development Engineers and to put into life the initiatives of the Belarusian State University concerning the promotion of exports of scientific and technical products and intellectual assets,” the Committee told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The meeting considered the fulfillment of projects of the Belarusian innovative development program for the period of 2011-2015. In all, the program stipulates over 230 innovative projects.

“The innovative development program will not only modernize particular plants but will also foster the pharmaceutical industry, micro-biology, micro-electronics and machine building, Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said. “Our colleagues from the Customs Union and third states told us there was an interest in our projects,” he said. Negotiations are underway with Russia, Ukraine and some EU countries, he added.
