Defense Ministry stops buying Kalashnikov AK-47 submachine guns

The weapon does not meet the Ministry’s needs, General Staff Chief Gen. Nikolai Makarov said

CHEBARKUL, September 27 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian Defense Ministry has stopped buying Kalashnikov AK-47 submachine guns because the stock of such guns is too large and the weapon does not meet the Ministry’s needs, General Staff Chief Gen. Nikolai Makarov said.

“The mobilization reserves, including those of this submachine gun, exceed the needs by dozens of times,” he said.

“We will spend our reserves first and will acquire new weapons later on,” he said.
