Nord Stream’s gas supplies due October 8

“The project leads to further diversification of energy cooperation with Russia,” Germany’s ambassador said

MOSCOW, September 27 (Itar-Tass) — Supplies of gas via the Nord Stream gas pipeline are due on October 8, 2011, Germany’s Ambassador to Russia Ulrich Brandenburg told a news conference on Tuesday.

“The first line of the pipeline was opened three weeks ago,” he said. “Main gas supplies will begin from October 8, and then the second line will go operational.”

“The project leads to further diversification of energy cooperation with Russia,” the diplomat said.

“Russia is our major partner and gas supplier,” Brandenburg continued. “We buy bout 40 percent of this energy resource exactly in your country.”

At the same time, the head of the diplomatic representation confirmed some disputes with the Russian Federation regarding the third energy package and stressed that “this issue should be settled as soon as possible.”
