Abkhazia’s Cabinet of Ministers steps down

SUKHUM, September 27 (Itar-Tass) —— In accordance with Article 11 of the law of the Republic of Abkhazia On The President of the Republic of Abkhazia and in connection with the inauguration of the newly elected president, the Cabinet has stepped down.

The resignation statement was signed by Prime Minister Sergei Shamba, and the resignation of the government was accepted by the head of state, Alexander Ankvab. He instructed the government to continue the execution of its powers until the formation of a new cabinet.

Ankvab has signed a decree to appoint the prime minister of Abkhazia. He is Leonid Lakerbaya, who previously occupied the post of first deputy prime minister. The president instructed the new prime minister to submit within the established deadline his proposals for the structure and composition of the Cabinet, the chief of the presidential information department, Kristian Bzhania, told Itar-Tass.

The new president of Abkhazia, Alexander Ankvab, elected on August 26, took office on September 26.
