SUKHUM, September 26 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s delegation headed by Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko has arrived for inauguration of Abkhazia’s President Alexander Ankvab.
The delegation features the Council’s head of the defence and security committee, Viktor Ozerov, and secretary of state and deputy foreign minister, Grigory Karasin.
Besides participation in the official ceremony of inauguration, Matviyenko will have a brief discussion with the new president of a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda.
The trip to Abkhazia is the first official visit for Matviyenko as chairman of the higher chamber of the Russian parliament. She was elected to take the position a week earlier, at the chamber’s first sitting during the autumn session.
