Lomonosov readings devoted to 300th birthday of great scientist

The book includes illustrations of exhibits and unique archives from the M.V. Lomonosov Museum

ST PETERSBURG, September 26 (Itar-Tass) — The Lomonosov readings forum consecrated to the 300th birthday of great Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov opens at the St. Petersburg Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Monday.

A new book to celebarte the 300th anniversary of Mikhail Lomonosov and a catalogue on M.V. Lomonosov and the Russian science of the 18th century will be presented within the framework of the forum, the chairman of the forum’s organizing committee and the director of the Peter the Great Anthropology and Ethnography Institute, Professor Yuri Chistov told Itar-Tass.

The book includes illustrations of exhibits and unique archives from the M.V. Lomonosov Museum, a department of the Peter the Great Anthropology and Ethnography Museum (Kunstkamera).

“Lomonosov was one of the greatest innovators in the history of world science,” Chistov said. “His inventions encompass chemistry, physics and astronomy. They had outpaced the works of western European scientists for decades. The keynote reports of the leading scientists and researchers who will speak at the Lomonosov readings are devoted to these very aspects.”
