SUKHUM, September 26 (Itar-Tass) — An inauguration ceremony of Abkhazian President Elect Alexander Ankvab will be held here on Monday.
The president takes the oath to the whole multinational people of the republic that he “will use his knowledge and will take all his effort for the sake of their wellbeing, peace and calmness” and at the post of the president “will follow strictly the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Abkhazia, will act as a guarantor of the strict fulfillment of the Constitution by the authorities, the observance of the rights and freedoms of all citizens in the republic.” The president swears on the Constitution of the Republic of Abkhazia.
A presidential inauguration ceremony will begin at 12.00 Moscow time on Monday. The ceremony will be broadcast live on the republican television.
At the inauguration ceremony Alexander Ankvab will officially receive the attributes of presidential powers – the seal with the image of the national emblem of the Republic of Abkhazia and the inscription President of the Republic of Abkhazia and the presidential standard.
The inauguration ceremony will be held modestly this time without foreign guests officially invited to attend the ceremony. This fact is caused by the demise of the previous Abkhazian president Sergei Bagapsh and the early presidential elections, which were held on August 26.
Three candidates, namely Alexander Ankvab, Raul Khadzhimba and Sergei Shamba were running for presidency.
According to the election returns, Ankvab gained 54.9% of votes (58,657 people), Raul Khadzhimba – 19.82% (21,177 people), Sergei Shamba – 21.02% (22,456 people).
Ankvab gained the highest percentage of votes in the Abkhazian capital and in all districts of the republic, as well as at the polling stations in Moscow and Cherkessk.
