MOSCOW, September 25 (Itar-Tass) —— President Dmitry Medvedev may follow suit of tandem partner Vladimir Putin and head the United Russia Party if it retains majority in the State Duma while Putin returns to the Kremlin after the 2012 election.
“I dare suggest that after the victory at the parliamentary and presidential election Dmitry Anatolyevich Medvedev may head the United Russia Party,” Kremlin chief-of-staff Sergei Naryshkin told a press conference on Sunday.
Although Putin is still not a member of the United Russia, he was the number 1 on its ticket in the previous parliamentary election and chaired it after he became the prime minister in 2008.
Medvedev is also not a member of the United Russia but heads the party ticket at the December 4 parliamentary election.
Naryshkin also said the congress of the ruling party nominated Medvedev for the prime minister, but did not discuss the composition of the new government.
“As for government members, time will show who occupies which post,” he said.
