WASHINGTON, September 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin welcomed the announcement by the ruling tandem of their election plans as it “clarified the situation which is necessary for the markets.”
“It has been clarified which is a positive development,” he told reporters late on Saturday commenting on Vladimir Putin’s plan to run for president in 2012 and appoint Dmitry Medvedev as the prime minister in case of victory.
“We have reforms in store. I believe Putin will be active in implementing the transformations. He feels the problems and reacts to them. I hope in this sense he also feels what has to be done to increase the economic growth potential and to implement structural reforms,” Kudrin said.
The announcement of the tandem is good for the markets as reform plans of Medvedev are well-known, he added.
If Putin and Medvedev swap jobs after the 2012 election “they will have to actively react to existing challenges,” Kudrin said.
