The Russian minister "stressed the importance of the soonest resumption of the substantive negotiations for the sake of comprehensive and fair peace in the Middle East"

MOSCOW, September 23 (Itar-Tass) —— Foreign Ministers Sergei Lavrov and Avigdor Lieberman met on the sidelines of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly on Friday to discuss the Middle East situation and the Palestinian-Israeli settlement prospects, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The Russian minister “stressed the importance of the soonest resumption of the substantive negotiations for the sake of comprehensive and fair peace in the Middle East and confirmed the readiness of Russia together with the other members of the Quartet and the interested sides to render assistance to their resumption on the universally recognized international legal platform,” the ministry said.

“The sides stressed their interest in the further active political dialog on global and regional problems, including the suppression of terrorism and the creation of a zone free from weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East,” the ministry said.
