MOSCOW, September 22 (Itar-Tass) – Police operatives in Moscow are trying to track down the owner of a suspicious car that was found near the Yaroslavsky railway station in the city’s downtown area Thursday night, police sources told Itar-Tass.
“That’s a Lada model 5 car and it has the number-plates issued in Moscow but no one can rule out that they may prove to be fakes,” a source said. “We’re trying to identify the car owner now.”
Demolition experts from Russia’s Federal Security Service /FSB/ are working at the site of the dangerous find.
Interior officials said earlier an object resembling a fuse had been found inside the car.
Due to the police suspicions around the possible stuffing of the Lada, all passengers have been evacuated from the Yaroslavsky station, which is a hub for local trains to the densely populated northeast areas of the Moscow region and for the long-distance trains to a host of destinations in Siberia and the Far East.
The railway terminal is the starting point of the world’s longest regular railway route linking Moscow and Vladivostok, which crosses a distance of 9,259 kilometers.
At the time of reporting, the traffic on Komsomolskaya Square where the station is located was still heavily restricted.
