MAKHACHKALA, September 22 (Itar-Tass) —— A double terrorist act was committed in Dagestan overnight to Thursday, a car of the Buinaksk district police chief came under fire.
The bomb blasts in Makhachkala killed a police officer, 44 policemen were injured. All in all, 61 people were injured. Local residents, who were staying nearby at the moment of the blast, were also injured.
The first explosive device was detonated at 00.20 p.m. Moscow time on Wednesday at 11, Yermoshkin Street, a few hundred meters away from the Dagestani Interior Ministry building. The bomb power has made three kilograms of TNT. No one was injured in the explosion.
The police rushed to the explosion site at 00.35 p.m. Moscow time 15 minutes later, 40 meters away from the first blast site on the crossroads of Dakhadayev and Yermoshkin Streets, where the second bomb was detonated with striking pieces that was planted in a VAZ-21043. The experts found that the bomb power reached 35-40 kilograms of TNT. A patrolman was killed, 61 people were injured in the blast.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development reported that 32 injured people were undergoing treatment at the republican hospitals on Thursday morning. Three of them are in grave condition. Another 29 injured people received outpatient aid.
A criminal case was opened under Article 205 of the Criminal Code for a terrorist act over the bomb blasts. The suspects in the terrorist act were already exposed. On the orders of the interior minister the police chief in the North Caucasus Federal District Lieut. Gen. Sergei Chenchik and a team of operatives rushed to the terror scene.
An attempt on the life of the police chief of the Buinaksk district police station Akhmadnabi Adilkhanov was made early on Thursday morning in Dagestan. The car of an officer, who was driving to his office, came under submachine gun fire on the outskirts of the district center. He was not injured, but two his guards were killed.
Due to a deteriorating situation Dagestan’s leader Magomedsalam Magomedov cut short his service mission to Moscow and is en route to the republic to hold an urgent meeting.
