Russia’s unemployment in August amounts to about 5 mln

In comparison with July, the number of the employed population increased by 384,000 people, or by 0.5 percent

MOSCOW, September 22 (Itar-Tass) —— There were 4.7 million jobless people - - 6.1 percent of the economically active population in Russia in August, the Russian Federal Statistics Service (Rosstat) reported on the results of a selected examination of the population on problems of employment.

In comparison with July, the number of the employed population increased by 384,000 people, or by 0.5 percent, the number of jobless people over this period decreased by 341,000 people, or by 6.8 percent.

The number of the economically active population in August amounted to 76.7 million people, or more than 54 percent of the total population of the country. Out of them 72 million people were classified as those who are engaged in economic activities. The level of employment of the population in August amounted to 65 percent.

In comparison with August 2010, the number of the employed population grew by 477,000 peoples, or by 0.7 percent, the number of jobless people reduced by 462,000, or by 8.8 percent.
