KIEV, September 21 (Itar-Tass) —— Speaker of Ukraine Verkhovna Rada, or national parliament, Vladimir Litvin on Wednesday asked the parliament’s secretariat to draft messages to the Russian State Duma lower parliament house and the European Parliament on the gas issue.
The move came after a speech by Anatoly Kinakh, a member of the Party of Regions faction in the Ukrainian parliament and the president of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, who urged to “provide a clear wording of the position of the state in the gas talks” with Russia.
According to Kinakh, gas disputes must be settled outside politics or personal relations.
“There is a proposal on behalf of the Verkhovna Rada to send a message to the Russian State Duma and to the European Parliament clarifying the position of our state, providing our guarantees as a reliable strategic transit country and calling to pool efforts in a search for a balance of interests,” the lawmaker said and added that after that it will be possible to work on the formation of a transparent energy market in Europe.
