2 gunmen killed in Kabardino-Balkaria

NALCHIK, September 21 (Itar-Tass) — Two gunmen were killed in an shootout with law-enforcement bodies in a house in the village of Belym, Elbrus district, Kabardino-Balkaria, the regional department of the Investigative Committee (SK) confirmed to Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

Reports on Tuesday said five militants had been destroyed.

"The group of investigators has not yet been allowed to the scene in Akhmatov Street. The information might be updated," an SK representative said.

The shootout began during a police operation/search measures at around 19:00, Moscow time, on Tuesday. Two police officers from reinforcements were killed in the shootout, and another was wounded.

The militants were identified. One of them is Kamil Mirzoyev, 41, a local resident.

Criminal proceedings were opened over attempted murder of law-enforcement personnel and "illegal turnover of weapons."
