Medvedev congratulates Armenia on Independence Day

The message says: "At present we successfully develop versatile contacts in the spirit of allied partnership"

YEREVAN, September 21 (Itar-Tass) — President Dmitry Medvedev of the Russian Federation has congratulated the leader of Armenia, Serge Sargsyan, and "the friendly Armenian people on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Armenia". The text of the congratulatory message has been circulated here by the press service of the Head of Armenia.

Medvedev writes, "Over the years that have passed since, the Republic has made marked strides in the economy and the social welfare sector, and has enhanced its prestige in the international arena. We are gratified to note that the foundation of the traditionally goodneighbourly relations between Russia and Armenia, the relations that have deep historical roots, has been consolidated on a new basis".

The message says further as follows: "At present we successfully develop versatile contacts in the spirit of allied partnership. Through joint efforts we open up new promising areas of interaction in trade, economic, investment, humanitarian and other spheres".

Medvedev expects that Sargsyan's forthcoming visit to Russia in October "will give a considerable impetus to further all-round development of cooperation".

The President of the RF is confident that "The fruitful political dialogue, and the coordinated work within the scope of integration institutions throughout the Commonwealth of Independent States accord with the long-term interests of the peoples of Russia and Armenia, and play an important role in the dynamic development of the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, and in the strengthening of security and stability in the Transcaucasus".
