Russia violated Yukos' property protection right - European court

STRASBOURG, September 20 (Itar-Tass) — The European court of human rights said Russia had violated the right of oil company Yukos to protection of property, according to the ECHR ruling made public on Tuesday.

The Strasbourg-based court said the Russian authorities had violated several fundamental provisions of the European Convention on Human rights, such as Article 6 (the right to a fair trial).

Former Yukos shareholders demanded a compensation from the Russian budget exceeding 98 billion dollars for illegal alienation of property by the state.
