Smolensk deputy head detained after search in mayor's office

The purpose of the investigation has not been disclosed

MOSCOW, September 20 (Itar-Tass) — Deputy mayor of the city of Smolensk Nikolai Petrochenko has been taken to the regional police department after investigative actions conducted in the mayor’s office of the city on Monday.

Law enforcement officials conducted investigative actions in the building of the city administration of Smolensk on Monday evening. The search took place in the office of Petrochenko, as well as in the office of deputy chief of staff of Smolensk administration Alexander Pogulyayev. The purpose of the investigation has not been disclosed.

The Rossiya-24 news television channel reported that representatives of the city and regional authorities have not yet given any official comments.
