VOLGOGRAD, September 19 (Itar-Tass) — The death toll from the road accident which occurred in Volgograd on Sunday night rose to six when the 16-year-old passenger of the scooter died in hospital, the press service of the regional police department told Itar-Tass.
"The accident occurred at the intersection of Lenin and Metallurgov Streets in the town's Krasnooktyabrsky district. The driver of a Hyundai Sonata ran the red light at a great speed, ramming the Orion scooter which was carrying two teenagers.
"The driver then lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a power transmission pylon," the regional police said.
The driver and four Hyundai Sonata passengers died of their injuries on the spot. On Monday morning, the scooter passenger died in hospital. There are two crash survivors: a young woman who was among the Hyundai Sonata passengers and a young man who was steering the scooter.
Investigation is underway.
