MAKHACHKALA, September 18 (Itar-Tass) — Borderguards and policemen were attacked twice in the Tsuntinsky district, Dagestan, last Saturday. As a result, one borderguard was killed, two borderguards were wounded, as was one policeman, Itar-Tass learnt from the Dagestan branch of the Russian Investigation Committee.

According to the investigation, “unidentified people activated a homemade explosive device at 14.10 on the highway between the villages of Mezhdurechye and Khupri, while two jeeps with borderguards were passing”. As a result of the blast, one borderguard was killed, while another two received fragmentation wounds and burns. The blast damaged a jeep that started licking fuel and then ignited.

A criminal case was instituted in connection with this fact under three articles of the Russian Criminal Code: “Attempt on the life of officers of law enforcement bodies”, “Illegal production of explosives and explosive devices” and “Premeditated damage of state property”.

Later in the day, officers of local police made an attempt at stopping a jeep to check documents at 22.10 near the village of Mokok of the same district. In response to a demand to stop, unidentified people made several shots at policemen from the motor vehicle. As a result, one of them was wounded. Attackers fled away. Later, the abandoned jeep was found on the outskirt of the village.

Measures are being taken to establish and nab people, involved in the attack on the policemen.
