KIEV, September 17 (Itar-Tass) — Ukraine should not think that its geographic location, important for Europe, grants it the right to ignore the basic European principles, said on Saturday Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski during the discussion “Eastern Europe and Ukraine’s role” at the eighth Yalta annual meeting “Ukraine and the world: common challenges and common future”.
“You should not think that your geographic location, undoubtedly important for Europe, gives you the right to ignore the basic European principles, by which you should abide if you want to join the European community,” said the Polish minister.
He also said that mistaken is the opinion that “integration into Europe means a rupture with Russia and that you should choose between the EU and Russia”.
Sikosrki said that the European Union is close to signing agreements on association and on a free trade zone with Ukraine.
He expressed hope that these agreements can be signed already in September at the “Eastern partnership” summit in Poland.
