NATO to end combat operation in Libya in 3 months

Obtained by Suddeutsche Zeitung, U.N. may dispatch to Libya from 50 to 200 civilian advisers

BERLIN, September 16 (Itar-Tass) —— NATO is going to end the combat operation in Libya within three months and to give to the Transitional National Council (TNC) far-reaching powers in the maintenance of law and order. This follows from a draft resolution of the U.N. Security Council, submitted by Britain, whose discussion may be started on Friday.

According to the document, obtained by Suddeutsche Zeitung, U.N. may dispatch to Libya from 50 to 200 civilian advisers. They will help the new Libyan authorities and promote the creation of a law-based system in that North African country.

Aside from it, embargo on Libya will be lifted, which will make it possible to resume arms deliveries to that country. The no-flight zone over Libya, imposed by NATO, will also be lifted, at least for the planes, whose route and whose cargoes are known.

The financial resources of the previous government, kept on the frozen bank accounts, will be gradually turned over to the new Libyan leaders, Suddeutsche Zeitung reports.
