Right Cause party adjourns congress until September 20

Delegates to a congress of the Right Cause party made a decision on Thursday not to elect a new party chairman yet

MOSCOW, September 15 (Itar-Tass) —— Delegates to the Congress of the Right Cause party on Thursday have elected a federal political council of the party and made an official decision to take part in the election to the State Duma scheduled for December 4.

Delegates to a congress of the Right Cause party made a decision on Thursday not to elect a new party chairman yet. Chief of the executive committee of the Right Cause party Andrei Dunayev will be Acting party chairman until a new party chairman is elected "either at the next session or later," Dunayev said.

Earlier on Thursday a Congress of the Right Cause party had deposed Mikhail Prokhorov from the post of the party chairman.

The delegates to the congress also adopted a new party Charter. The Right Cause party intends to take part in the Duma election and win more than seven percent of votes.

The delegates adopted a new party Charter on Thursday after the Congress had sacked Mikhail Prokhorov from the post of the party chairman. The new Charter envisages that Chief of the party executive committee retains his functions and is given a status of a deputy party chairman.

The Congress also revoked previous resolutions passed by Prokhorov on the expulsion of Andrei Bogdanov and the Revyakin brothers - Sergei and Alexander, from the party.

The party has elected a new federal political council numbering 16, including party deputy chairman Andrei Dunayev, Sergei Ryavkin and Boris Nadezhdin.

Now the party is to endorse a federal list of its candidates. For that purpose the Right Cause congress has announced a break until September 20 when the party members are to meet again to endorse a list of its candidates. Nevertheless, to become a candidate in the Duma election the Right Cause has to collect 150,000 signatures of the electorate in its support.

"In the present organizational situation the responsibility for the election campaign will be vested with regional leaders," Andrei Dunayev said.
