Only one wildfire still ravaging in Russia – emergencies ministry

MOSCOW, September 15 (Itar-Tass) — There in only one active wildfire in Russia, although the wildfire fire situation remains serious in a number of regions, a spokesman for the Russian Emergencies Ministry told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

“As many as 20 new wildfires on an overall area of 96.1 hectares were registered across Russia in the past 24 hours. A total of 23 fires on an area of 122.6 hectares were extinguished. So, only one wildfire is not yet put out,” the spokesman said, adding that an overall active fire area is 0.56 hectares, fire on 4.44 hectares has been contained.

“Taking into account weather forecasts, wildfire hazards are topical in the Siberian and North Caucasus federal discticts, namely in the republics of Tuva, Altai, Dagestan, in the Altai, Transbaikal and Stavropol territories, and in the Novosibirsk region,” the spokesman noted.
