VLADIVOSTOK, September 15 (Itar-Tass) —— Animal specialists are still unable to catch a runaway Amur tigress in Russia’s Far Eastern Primorye Territory.
The young tigress called Roskosh (Luxury) is hiding in the trees some 200 meters away from her enclosure in a wildlife sanctuary of the Biological and Soil Science Institute of the Far Eastern Department of Russian Academy of Sciences, from where she fled on Monday having pushed the cage’s bolt of back with her paw.
Tiger inspectors made attempts to decoy the big cat from her shelter but failed. Inspectors hope the tigress will soon get hungry and leave her hiding place… to be put to sleep and taken back to her cage.
The young tigress was captured in June near the settlement of Roskosh (and later was named after this settlement) in the Khabarovsk Territory after having attacked dogs and having approached dwelling houses. The tigress was taken to an animal shelter in the Khabarovsk Territory. Specialists then said she was practically healthy. She weighed about 110 kilograms and had healthy teeth. Specialists however decided not to re-release the big cat back to the wild because of her inadequate behavior. It was then decided to transfer her to the research institute to be used for breeding. Researched pinned great hopes on the young tigress and planned to release her cubs into the wild under the tiger rehabilitation program.
