MOSCOW, September 13 (Itar-Tass) —— The National Committee on Studies NCS/BRICS in the format of non-commercial partnership has been established by the Fund Russian World and the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow on Tuesday.
“The establishment of the association is dictated by life, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. “Exactly Russia became the initiator of the creation of the BRICS format which is of global importance.” According to the minister, BRICS occupies 30 percent of territories, has 45 percent of the population of the world, as well as is one of the key directions of Russia’s foreign policy. In a message of greetings to the participants in the first meeting, the minister expressed confidence that the established committee “will become an important partner of Russian diplomacy.”
Ambassador at large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vadim Lukov, who read the text of the message of greetings, touched in his speech on problems of the world currency-financial system which is discussed on the G20 floor. At the same time, he stressed that that “Russia is interested in building a predictable system of reserve currencies.”
For his part, executive director of the board of the Fund Russian World Vyacheslav Nikonov noted that the chief aim of the NCS is to study the role and place of the BRICS countries in the world politics and economy. The committee, according to him, will form a common information space for studying problems of unification. “With the help of the new mechanism we intend to advance Russian stands and experts’ estimates in the international arena,” Nikonov stressed.
Director of the Far East Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences Mikhail Titarenko was elected the chairman of the NCS BRICS presidium.
The first summit of BRIC (Russia, Brazil, India, China) was held in Yekaterinburg in 2009. In February 2011, a new participant - - SAR joined the association and its name was changed into BRICS.
