BUSHEHR, September 12 (Itar-Tass) —— Iran and Russia will set up a joint energy committee. The decision was made late on Sunday in the course of Tehran’s talks between Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko and Iranian Minister of Petroleum Rostam Qasemi, an informed official told Itar-Tass on Monday.
The two ministers will head the committee. With due account of the importance of the energy sphere, the committee will hold its meetings on a regular basis in order to control fulfilment of bilateral agreements reached earlier, the official said.
During the talks, the two ministers confirmed the necessity of the speediest implementation of the Russian-Iranian energy “road map”, which was adopted in July 2010 in the course of Iranian former Minister of Petroleum Masud Mir-Qasemi’s visit to Moscow.
In addition, the two sides confirmed that they have similar stances on the Caspian Sea issue, which excludes the laying of a gas pipeline on the sea bottom from the view point of the environmental protection, the official said.
Besides, Shmatko and Qasemi confirmed the intention of the two sides to coordinate efforts in the format of international and regional organisations, including the Forum of gas exporter countries. As well as, they spoke in favour of further cooperation in the sphere of oil and gas deposits development.
