MOSCOW, September 12 (Itar-Tass) — The Spassk-Dalny garrison military court has fined an ensign 90,000 roubles for abuse of office powers and negligence.
The court ascertained that Vyacheslav Gertsog, chief of the food warehouse, equipment and apartment property at military unit # 3411, found a short supply of canned meat upon learning about an upcoming check of his warehouse.
In an attempt to conceal the fact, he ordered his subordinates to stick canned meat labels on dog food cans. The dog food then was placed on top the regular supplies and the boxes were moved to the shelves where canned beef was stored, the press service of the main military investigation department (GVSU) under the Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass on Monday.
"Inspectors found out that 11,000 beef cans were missing worth 850,000 roubles, and exposed short supplies of canned fish, butter, condensed milk, biscuits and frozen meat. The missing supplies cost over one million roubles," the press service said.
The GVSU noted that Gertsog had neglected his duties. He dealt out food from the warehouse without drawing documents or keeping records, and failed to take an inventory after returning from holiday.
Gertsog pleaded guilty during preliminary investigation, and paid 919,000 roubles as compensation for the damage caused by his actions. He also agreed with the military unit's demand that he repay the remaining sum to cover the damages.
The ensign signed a plea bargain statement, which the prosecutor and Gertsog's representative supported.
The court fined Gertsog 90,000 roubles and met the civil suit to recover another 112,000 roubles from the defendant.
