Yabloko to nominate over 350 candidates for Duma elections

The Yabloko party will nominate over 350 candidates in 82 regional groups for elections to the State Duma of the sixth convocation

MOSKOVSKY (Moscow Region), September 10 (Itar-Tass) —— The Yabloko party will nominate over 350 candidates in 82 regional groups for elections to the State Duma of the sixth convocation. The congress, which began its work in the Moscow Region, is to approve the list.

On Friday, as ITAR-TASS learnt, the party’s federal bureau and political committee decided that the list’s federal part will include 10 people. Founder of the party, and now a member of its political committee, Grigory Yavlinsky will lead the ten. Chairman of the party Sergei Mitrokhin will be number 2 on the list. The third position on the list “is reserved in accordance with the party’s coalition agreement,” but the name of the candidate is not disclosed yet.

It is supposed that the federal part will include leader of the internal party faction Green Russia corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexei Yablokov, leader of the internal party faction Soldiers’ Mothers Svetlana Kuznetsova, political scientist Andrei Ryabov, Professor of the Higher Economic School Igor Nikolayev and theatre producer Alexander Gnezdilov.

Well-known jornalist - - editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Dmitry Muratov and MK observer Yulia Kalinina also intend to run according to the lists of Yabloko. A number of regional groups will be headed by representatives of ecological and human rights organizations.

The voting to approve the election lists will begin in the evening and finish at about midnight. The party promises to announce its results on Sunday.

On Saturday, the congress participants are to discuss the election programme. Five variants of the document, at the minimum, will be presented at the congress. One of them - - “Russia demands changes!” is put forward by Yavlinsky and Mitrokhin.
