Internet to develop its rules of existence as global environment – Minister Shchyogolev

Any self-regulating community develops internal rules sooner or nature

BLED, Slovenia, September 9 (Itar-Tass) —— The state should not impose any rules on the Internet; this global environment will develop its rules of existence in a natural course of events, Russian Mass Media and Communications Minister Igor Shchyogolev said at the Bled Strategic Forum held under the Power of the Future motto on Friday.

“Any self-regulating community develops internal rules sooner or nature. The Internet, which is a global community, will develop its rules of deterrence of the illegal content – child pornography, cyber crime and propaganda of violence and extremism – in a natural course of events,” the minister said. “The government should not invent any rules for the Internet; it should be an equal participant in the common process that goes on freely and naturally in the worldwide web,” he said.

Slovenian President Danilo Turk and Prime Minister Borut Pahor, acclaimed politicians and public figures from Western and Eastern Europe, the Balkan region, Russia, China, Chile and Brazil and representatives of international and non-governmental organizations addressed the forum delegates.

In all, the forum organized by the Slovenian Foreign Ministry has over 400 participants.
