Ukraine to sustain higher gas price

The gas price for Ukraine in the third quarter was 355 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres

KIEV, September 9 (Itar-Tass) — The Ukrainian economy will sustain the growth of the price of gas imports, Irina Akimova, deputy head of the administration of the Ukrainian president, said at a briefing here on Friday. “The authorities will not permit economic recession in condition of the growth of the gas price. We shall make all decisions only in the national interests,” she said. According to Akimova, the Ukrainian leaders will take into consideration “all the outside restrictions Ukraine is facing today or will face in the future.” “There is no doubt our economy will survive,” she stressed.

The gas price for Ukraine in the third quarter was 355 dollars per 1,000 cubic metres. The figure for the fourth quarter will be 388 dollars.

Ukraine insists on the revision of the gas contracts with Russia, which were signed by Yulia Timoshenko in 2009. It wishes to reduce the amount of the imported gas, to bring the price down and to get back to the system of short-term contracts for gas deliveries.
