GORKI, September 5 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, one month before the debates on the budget in the State Duma, warned it about the need to calculate expenditures more thoroughly. “We have no extra money, as you know,” the president told a meeting on the budget policy.
Medvedev stressed that “decisions must be balanced and rightly calculated and must promote rational use of budget funds.”
Medvedev noted that the draft budget for three years must be submitted to the State Duma before October 1 and that the budget priorities had been discussed at various meetings and the cabinet was considering them. “The main guidelines have been defined quite clearly in the budget message,” the president added.
“We must be aware of the consequences the measures taken will have in various areas of life and we must know how precisely they can influence the pace of growth of the economy, competitiveness and the investment climate and, proceeding from this, must assess the expediency of decisions on new expenditures,” said the head of state. He pointed out that all expenditures must have appropriate coverage.
