MOSCOW, September 4 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow will start marking its 864th birthday this Sunday with the Kremlin chimes at noon.

According to the tradition, the holiday will start with the opening ceremony which will be staged in the Red Square for the first time this year. Spectators will see a real theatrical show – bright, festive and agitating. The programme’s authors tried to unite history, present days and the future of the Russian capital.

The country’s main square will unite opera and variety stars; famous orchestras and a theatre where children will play, Bolshoi Theatre soloists and the Todes show ballet.

Following the above, the holiday will flow out into city streets, parks and public gardens where over 700 events were prepared for Muscovites and guests of the capital. All of them will be flabbergasting for spectators, the townhall assured. “We received this year nearly twice as many applications from actors, and we had a great choice; we selected the most interesting shows,” says the city administration.

The Manezh Square will host “Moscow Opening Day” – an exhibition and drawing lessons for all who wish. A youth festival is planned for the Boulevard Circle.

A breath-taking fireworks on the Vorobyevy Hills will be the finale of the holiday, and it will match in its scale the show, recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records, presented to Moscow by French composer Jean Michel Jarre in 1997.
