KRASNOYARSK, September 2 (Itar-Tass) — State Duma deputy from the United Russia party Alexei Lebed on Friday filed a notice on resignation from the party of his own free will. The former chairman of the government of Khakassia announced this to reporters at a press conference in Abakan.
He declined to name the reason for the decision, remarking however, that despite his resignation he will continue to work in the State Duma until his mandate expires.
Lebed got his seat in the Russian parliament by the United Russia lists. He took over the mandate released after the appointment of Viktor Zimin as head of Khakassia.
In addition, Lebed said that he intends to participate in the campaign of the elections of a new Duma that has begun, but he noted that he would “not tell how and in what capacity.” He added that he “would not disclose the intrigue now.”
On January 14, 2009, Lebed resigned in connection with Zimin’s appointment by the Russian president as chairman of the government of the Republic of Khakassia. After retirement he became a member of the State Duma and was also member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly.
