RABAT, September 1 (Itar-Tass) — Algeria has refused to grant political asylum to Muammar Gaddafi, El-Watan newspaper of Algeria reported on Thursday.
According to its information, at present the Libyan leader and his family are staying in the area of the Libyan-Algerian border. The sources of the newspaper report that Gaddafi tried to contact Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, but the latter allegedly refused to communicate with the leader of the Libyan Jamahiriya, who lost power. One of the advisers of the Algerian president replied to Gaddafi, saying that Bouteflika was not in his residence.
