Poltavchenko may head United Russia party list in St Petersburg

The elections to the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly will be held simultaneously with the elections to the State Duma on December 4

ST. PETERSBURG, August 31 (Itar-Tass) —— Georgy Poltavchenko did not rule out that he may head a party list of the United Russia Party at the parliamentary elections, if the United Russia leadership makes a relevant proposal to him.

“I did not think about joining the party. You know that I am a non-partisan. As for an opportunity to head the election list of a party, including United Russia, I do not rule out such an opportunity for myself, if I receive such an offer from the party leadership or the party leader,” he elaborated. “I believe that it will be a sign of serious trust for me from the United Russia leader. If it (the offer) is made, I will give an answer to it,” Poltavchenko told reporters. Meanwhile, he did not specify what elections he meant – the elections in the State Duma or the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly.

The speaker of the St. Petersburg parliament and the secretary of the political council of the United Russia regional branch, Vadim Tyulpanov, noted that he would like Poltavchenko to head the party list at the elections to the Legislative Assembly. “Probably the party will ask about it, but we did not discuss this issue yet. The question remains open,” Tyulpanov said.

The elections to the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly will be held simultaneously with the elections to the State Duma on December 4. The St. Petersburg parliament has taken a resolution to this effect on Wednesday.
