MOSCOW, August 29 (Itar-Tass) — The tricoloured flag of Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) was hoisted up a flagpole at the Libyan Embassy to Moscow on Monday.
Prior to the ceremony embassy staffers lined up, and the flag was brought on a gold tray. “Blood was shed for the freedom, future and the soil of Libya in the course of dramatic events,” Consul Ali Abu Bakr said at the ceremony. “Embassy staffers reflect the opinion of the whole people,” he said.
According to him, the developments in the country “are very important, we must summon all strength to build a new Libya, democracy and freedom”. “We have sided with the Transitional Council,” he stressed.
Libyans who have flocked at the embassy chant “For new Libya! Long live freedom and democracy!”
Ali Abu Bakr announced his support for the NTC on August 25. “We support the revolution of February 17, we side with the opposition reflecting aspirations of the country’s people,” he stressed.
On the same day the green flag of Jamahiriya was hauled down from the Libyan Embassy in Moscow, and one day later there was no attributes connected with the epoch of Muammar Gaddafi left in the embassy premises.
All these days numerous Russian and foreign reporters have been seen at the embassy. Police tightened security measures.
