YEKATERINBURG, August 28 (Itar-Tass) —— Students of the Urals Federal University found a 15-kilogram chip of the Dronino Meteorite, which fell down several thousands of years ago, in the summer expedition to the Ryazan region, the university told Itar-Tass on Friday.
The university laboratory will study the meteorite piece, the university said. The research will add to the elaboration of a strategy, which may eventually protect the Earth from the asteroid hazard.
In the 25 years of university expeditions, students have found meteorite pieces in the Far East, Tyva, the Volgograd region, Turkmenistan, the trans-Baikal territory and the Urals.
